A Day on the Near West Side
The neighborhood kids collect cans, for which a neighbor rewards them with candy. He says he barely breaks even on the trade, but clearly, it makes the kids feel industrious.
Buster, the very nice Boston Terrier, sits with his human friend at the Clark Bar. A sparkly collar spells out his name.
Longtime area resident recounts what it was like when Hollywood came to town to film the 1978 movie "The Deer Hunter." "A lot of people I know were in that stupid movie." His street was closed for three days, he recalls ruefully, and it was very inconvenient.
"This is my pride and joy," says this understandably proud dad, with his little girl.
